What Music Can You Learn?

Students learn a wide range of music, beginning with familiar melodies and method books and progressing to great works of classical literature. Our programs emphasize what musicians call “Western classical music,” including the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras.

Each period introduces new styles and challenges. Bach’s counterpoint, Beethoven’s intensity, Chopin’s lyricism, and Debussy’s color, and so forth. By studying this core repertoire, students build the technique and musical understanding that allows them to play or sing any style with confidence later in life.

Even the youngest beginners learn to recognize patterns, develop rhythm, and understand form, all while experiencing the joy of performing.

Register for a Recital or Festival

Recitals and Performance Opportunities

Performance is a central part of our approach. Students in our San Jose program participate in four to five recitals each year, along with one competition and one annual festival. These events help students apply what they’ve learned in lessons and gain confidence performing for others.

Parents often tell us that recital experience improves their child’s composure in other situations—tests, presentations, and even sports events. Performing helps students learn calm focus and self-assurance, which benefit them far beyond music.

Each recital is a celebration of progress, not a competition, and every student performs in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere.

Prepare For Music Exams

Many of our San Jose students work toward non-competitive music exams throughout the year. These include:

  • Certificate of Merit with the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC)

  • Royal Conservatory of Music Development Program (RCM)

  • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)

  • American College of Musicians National Piano Auditions

  • Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory

  • National Guild of Piano Teachers

Our teachers understand the requirements of each program and help students prepare every element—repertoire, scales, ear training, and sight reading. Students who participate in exams gain a clear sense of progress, stronger musicianship, and greater confidence in their abilities.

Exam preparation also gives students a long-term goal to work toward, which often improves motivation and daily practice habits.

Piano Lessons in San Jose

Our piano program teaches a balance of technique, artistry, and musical understanding. Beginners start with posture, rhythm, and reading exercises that help them play with ease. As they progress, students explore music from Bach, Clementi, Mozart, and Chopin, developing control and expression through each piece. Advanced pianists prepare concert etudes, sonatas, and Romantic works, refining their interpretation and dynamic control. Lessons also cover sight reading, scales, and theory so that students understand what they play on a deeper level. Each pianist builds a strong foundation that supports both performance and lifelong enjoyment.

Voice Lessons in San Jose

Voice students learn to sing with healthy technique and emotional connection. Teachers focus on breath support, tone production, and diction. Repertoire ranges from folk songs and early classical works to musical theater and contemporary selections. Students learn to project clearly without strain and to express themselves with confidence. For those preparing for auditions or choir placements, teachers help refine song choice, presentation, and stage presence. Each lesson includes vocal exercises, sight reading, and interpretation, allowing students to grow as singers and communicators.

Violin Lessons in San Jose

Our violin program develops posture, coordination, and tone from the first lesson. Students begin with open strings, basic bowing, and ear training before advancing to scales and simple pieces. As technique strengthens, they study solo and ensemble repertoire by composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, and Mozart. Intermediate players learn vibrato, shifting, and phrasing, while advanced students refine their artistry and musical depth. Teachers also prepare students for youth orchestra auditions and recitals, helping them build both technical confidence and musical sensitivity.

Other Stringed Instruments

Students may also study viola, cello, or double bass with instructors who understand the distinct qualities of each instrument. Lessons cover posture, bow technique, and intonation while introducing repertoire suited to each level. As students grow, they explore chamber music, concert literature, and orchestral excerpts. Teachers emphasize tone control, balance, and ensemble awareness so students can play comfortably with others. Every program encourages both precision and creativity in performance.
