Early Bird Registration (August 1-15) is $40.
Registration (August 16 - September 1) is $45.

By registering for the recital, you give permission for your child to be photographed.

Application is not complete without the submission of Recital Registration fee.

When submitting the payment, please remember to provide student’s First and Last Name.

Music Festival

Contemporary Era

November 7 - 8, 2026

Why do we host music festivals?

  • To promote Contemporary music among children and youth.

  • To encourage students of grades K-12 to gain performance experience in a non-competitive environment.

  • To appreciate the process of music education and to acknowledge each student’s achievements at every level of the process.

  • To emphasize one of the musical styles of standard music repertoire every year, for deeper study and repertoire expansion.

Music Festival Guidelines

  • Each student will receive comments from evaluators and an award based on their evaluations.

  • Judges may not hear the pieces in their entirety. This does not reflect negatively on the performers. All decisions of the judges are final.

  • All winners will be announced at the end of each event and will be posted at the competition website on the same day.

  • All solo works are to be played from memory, except duets and ensembles.

  • Original music must be provided for the judges. (No illegal photocopies)

  • Performance at the competition is allowed to be recorded or videotaped.

  • All contestants must wear proper concert attire.

  • Application is incomplete without an appropriate Application Fee

Repertoire Requirement

For All Levels

  • One piece in the Contemporary style.

  • One piece of your choice from any style other than Contemporary style.

  • Repertoire difficulty similar to Certificate of Merit Syllabus.

The “Encore” competition was created as a series of semi-private recitals with the goal to create an opportunity for young musicians to compete in a low pressure environment. Contestants perform without other musicians present to reduce the competitive pressure and allow for more musicianship.

Meet the Judge

Nancy Daggett Jensen

Nancy Daggett Jensen, a Master Teacher certified by the Music Teachers National Association, is an Independent piano teacher in Los Altos, CA. Marquis Who’s Who in America awarded her a Lifetime Achievement Award, Top Educator and Humanitarian Award. Her students have won honors in both Regional and State competitions. She was Certificate of Merit Chair for the Music Teachers Association of California from 1974-1979 and Panel Chair from 2007-2013. Having served several terms as President of the Los Altos Branch of the Music Teachers Association, she is now Certificate of Merit Chair for the Branch.Nancy has been on the Steinway Society Board for over twelve years and served as Artistic Director since 2008 to present.

  • Numbers rather than names will be used on evaluation forms.

  • Timekeeper will stop performance after the given time limit for the division.

  • All decisions of the judges are final.

  • All winners will be announced at the end of each group and will be posted on the competition website.

  • No arrangements allowed.

  • All solo works must be played from memory.

Ensemble Rules

  • Participants should play two pieces with contrasting styles.

  • Ensemble pieces may be played by book. A judge should be provided with a copy of an original sheet music.

  • Ensemble divisions will be assigned by the oldest member of the group.

  • Level will be assigned by the oldest ensemble member.

Silicon Valley Second School

Our recital hall provides an elegant and professional venue ideal for concerts, auditions, masterclasses, and special events. With excellent acoustics and a comfortable setting, it is well-suited for both performers and audiences.

Rental Rates: $200 for the first hour and $150 for each additional hour
