A Well-Rounded Voice Education

As far as the vocal mechanism is concerned, students will learn to sing clearly and without tension, project volume without straining, breath deeply through diaphragmatic breathing techniques, and create a beautiful sound in the bel canto style. As we develop a student’s technique, we will also help widen the vocal range. We’ll also practice scales and arpeggios – demands that are present in things like arias, Schubert’s Lieder, and even a great deal of Broadway music.

Prepare For Auditions, Exams and More

In addition to helping our students become excellent singers, we teach note reading, the basics of music theory, musical interpretation, diction and more. We can specifically help your child prepare for MTNA, ABRSM, RCM, and other auditions – even AP music theory, through our weekend music theory classes.

If your child has a school choir or theater audition coming up, please let us know! We can help them practice their music and learn how to project a strong stage presence. We can also help students develop repertoire lists for college auditions, and we’ll even hold a mock jury if you have auditions coming up.

Voice Lesson FAQs

What Do Students Learn In Voice Lessons?

Voice lessons focus on healthy vocal production, clear tone, and confident performance. Students learn proper breath support, posture, diction, and resonance, as well as how to interpret lyrics and express emotion in a natural way.

Are Voice Lessons Only For Advanced Singers?

No. We welcome beginners and experienced singers alike. Younger students learn how to match pitch, sing melodies, and develop musical ear training, while advanced students refine tone quality, range, and stylistic expression.

What Musical Styles Can I Study?

Our voice program focuses on classical and musical theater repertoire. Students learn traditional vocal literature as well as songs from Broadway, film, and art music. This mix helps them build both technique and versatility.

How Long Are Voice Lessons?

Lessons are available in 30-, 45-, and 60-minute sessions. Teachers recommend lesson length based on age, experience, and personal goals. Students may meet once or twice per week depending on availability.

What Are The Lesson Fees?

  • 30-minute lesson: $55 per class or $250 per month

  • 45-minute lesson: $80 per class or $360 per month

  • 60-minute lesson: $105 per class or $475 per month
Discounts are available for families who pay by semester or enroll in multiple lessons per week.

What Techniques Do You Emphasize?

Students learn breath control through diaphragmatic breathing, resonance adjustment for tone color, and alignment for balanced sound production. Lessons also include exercises that extend range, improve pitch accuracy, and strengthen overall stamina.

How Do You Prepare Students For Auditions?

We help students prepare for school musicals, choir placements, and college vocal auditions. Preparation includes song selection, diction coaching, stage presence, and mock performances to simulate the audition experience.

Do Students Perform In Recitals?

Yes. All voice students perform four to five times each year in recitals organized by the school. These events provide an encouraging atmosphere where singers build confidence and share their growth with family and friends.

Can Adults Take Voice Lessons Too?

Absolutely. Many adults take lessons to rediscover their singing voice, improve technique, or learn for personal enjoyment. Teachers tailor each lesson to the student’s pace and musical interests.

What Materials Do Voice Students Need?

Students should have a music notebook, a pencil, and a folder for sheet music. The school provides access to its music library, where students can purchase repertoire books and method materials.

How Do You Handle Missed Lessons?

If you must cancel a lesson, please notify the school at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons canceled early can be rescheduled. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged, since the teacher reserves that time exclusively for the student.

How Do I Enroll In Voice Lessons?

You can contact Silicon Valley Second School to discuss placement and scheduling. Lessons are available year-round for students in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and nearby communities.
