Deep Knowledge of String Literature
Whether it’s Suzuki for foundational skills and ear training or Essential Elements of Strings for note reading and technique, we’ve used every string method available. As students progress, they will work on curated recital repertoire that challenges their abilities and improves their musical expression. We draw from a mix of classic and modern methods to offer fun, engaging, and foundational violin education.
Well-Rounded Violin Lessons in Sunnyvale
Beginners start with essential techniques like bowing, finger placement, and posture to build a strong foundation, and as they progress, students learn advanced techniques, including vibrato, shifting, and various bowing styles. We incorporate music theory elements, such as key and time signatures, and dive into the form and structure of pieces to develop musical interpretation skills.
For advanced students, we emphasize nuance, tone, and expressive playing – phrasing, dynamics, and historical context all come into play. This allows each student to master the instrument while developing their unique musical voice. We want them to play music that listeners and juries will fall in love with.
4-5 Student Recitals Each Year
Performance is a wonderful way to build confidence and share the joy of music with others. Our students have the opportunity to perform in 4-5 recitals each year in a supportive, encouraging environment. In preparation for these recitals, students work with their teachers to select and perfect pieces, paying attention to every detail. As recital day approaches, students polish their music, practice stage presence, and experience the thrill of sharing their hard work! This experience often spills over into other aspects of their lives, whether that be sports, academics, social skills and more.
Prep for AP Theory Exams, ABRSM, and More
We also offer structured preparation for AP Music Theory exams, ABRSM assessments, and other standardized music tests. Our violin teachers understand the specific requirements of each exam, and we provide instruction that helps students succeed in performance and academic aspects of these tests. Weekly lessons include elements of music theory, history, and sight-reading, but students who wish to prepare more intensively can also participate in our weekend theory classes.
