There is a moment when music becomes something more than practicing alone.

The SVSS Band Program gives aspiring musicians the opportunity to experience that moment — playing alongside others, learning to listen and collaborate, developing their sound, and discovering the excitement of creating music together.

All ages and experience levels are welcome.

You don't need years of performance experience to become part of a band. You need curiosity, commitment, and a desire to make music with others.

Our Band Program welcomes musicians of all ages and experience levels, from students discovering ensemble playing for the first time to experienced musicians looking for new performance opportunities.

Meet Your Band Director

For more than four decades, Mr. Ashot Mnjoyan has lived the experience he now brings to his students: making music on professional stages around the world.

A two-time award winner of the prestigious Stage Performers' Competition, Mr. Ashot has performed professionally throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East and continues to perform at premier venues throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

His experience gives students something that cannot be learned from a textbook alone: an understanding of what it means to play with other musicians, communicate on stage, connect with an audience, and truly perform.

As Mr. Ashot puts it:

“The stage is where a student's hard work turns into a lasting memory.”

From Rehearsal to Performance

Band isn't just about rehearsal.

Students work toward the experience of performing together — developing repertoire, refining their sound, building stage presence, and learning how to turn individual preparation into a shared performance.

Through the process, students develop skills that extend far beyond music: responsibility, communication, confidence, adaptability, and teamwork.

Audition. Meet. Play.

Our band auditions are designed to help us get to know each musician — not to look for perfection. Think of your audition as an introduction, not a test.

We will learn about your musical background, hear you play or sing, and determine where you will have the best opportunity to contribute and grow.

Maybe You Have Never Been in a Band Before.

That is completely fine!

You don't need previous band experience. You don't need to be an advanced musician. And you don't need to know exactly where you fit yet.
